Getting a new pet, check ups, vaccinations

If you are considering a new pet, please ask for advice from our staff about the kind of animal to get and how to look after it.

We strongly advise that new kittens/puppies are brought in for a check-up and an initial course of vaccinations to give protection against important diseases. These are best started by 10 weeks of age although earlier vaccination may be appropriate depending upon your circumstances. A course of 2 injections is required to ensure immunity and vaccinations should be boosted annually throughout the animal’s life to maintain full protection.

We also recommend that dogs involved in training classes, dog clubs or shows and those entering boarding kennels are vaccinated against kennel cough: boosters are repeated every 12 months.

Rabbits are vaccinated against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease and Myxomatosis.
