Pet Passports post-Brexit

13 Nov Pet Passports post-Brexit

All clients who have a current pet passport or who will be getting one soon AND who wish to travel with their pet shortly after Brexit (i.e. the end of March 2019) may need to take urgent action before 28 November 2018 (i.e. THIS MONTH). Otherwise you may have difficulties obtaining the necessary travel documentation and will not be able to travel or return from abroad with your pet after the end of March 2019. In brief, pets needing rabies vaccination will need to have their immunisation in November followed by their blood test in December, and all other animals currently vaccinated for rabies and intending to travel will need blood tests in December to permit travel after the end of March 2019.

This information is based on current advice from the British government and is subject to change. If you are unsure as to what action you need to take please contact us soon to discuss the options and decide on your preferred plan of action. It remains possible that, with an appropriate agreement between the United Kingdom and the EU, no change in the travel arrangements will occur and that no action is necessary. However, if no agreement is reached then it is quite probable that the deadlines stated above will be enforced and, because there is a lead time of 3 months, it will be too late to act retrospectively after the end of December 2018 to permit travel plans to be fulfilled immediately after the end of March 2019.
